Jana's background in photography began after studying film and video in college. She's always had a knack for documenting life with moving pictures (hello, giant VHS video camera!), but in 2007 her love for still pictures began. Since then Jana has dabbled in many types of photography - from babies to weddings to fashion - but continually finds herself drawn back to dancers, high school seniors, & lifestyle. While these subjects are currently her main focus, she often enjoys branching outside the box to keep things fresh.
Jana's photos have been published in Southern Living, Vanity Fair, Style Me Pretty Living, Bust Magazine, Mingle Magazine, Lemonade and Lenses Magazine, Let the Kids Dress Themselves, and Western North Carolina Magazine. She has assisted with photo shoots for Southern Lliving magazine, and has worked with local stylists, hair & makeup artists, photographers, models, and dancers. Her wedding photography has taken her to Colorado, New York, New Hampshire, Texas, California, Florida, Illinois, & Arizona.
Jana's dance photography experience includes portraits and performance photography for Oklahoma City Ballet, The University of Oklahoma School of Dance, The Norman Ballet Company, Awen Academy of Ballet & Ballroom, and 405 Dance Co. In October 2013 Jana had the opportunity to learn from renowned ballet photographer, Gene Schiavone, at his workshop held in Connecticut.
Jana and her husband,Trae, both share a desire to live creative lives, travel the world, and, um, become crazy cat people! When she's not running her business, Jana likes to take ballet class, catch a movie with her girlfriends, or write for her travel blog (The Carsons Travel),
